Sankey Tank: Beautiful Lake in the middle of the city

Living in a crowded city like Bangalore often makes us realize the importance of a natural place like a forest or a lake. In these modern times, it is difficult to find such a place especially within the city. What is ironical is that Bangalore was known for its parks just few years ago.
But event amidst all the development, few natural places still exist within the city that catch the eye of nature lovers. One such place is "Sankey Tank" (Location).
Sankey Tanks is located in Sadashivanagar, near Malleshwaram. One of the popular hangout places in Bangalore, Sankey Tank is an artificial lake which is spread across an area of about 37.5 acres. It is the perfect place for people of all ages to go for a walk or run in the morning and evenings.
Built in the year of 1882 by Col. Richard Hieram Sankey of the Madras Sappers Regiment on whose name the lake is now being called as. The lake was built with the purpose of catering to the demands of water supply throughout Bangalore. It was also called with the name Gandhadhakotikere because of the Sandalwood Depot which was located close to the lake.

Key attractions of Sankey Tank:
- Perfectly located in the vicinity of residential areas in Bangalore like Sadashivanagar, Malleshwaram, Mekhri Circle, Vyalikal, Rajajinagar etc.
- Great place for a sitting, walking or running in the mornings and evenings. It is mostly visited by regulars staying around the area
- Well maintained park, which is being further developed
- Good food options around the park - Coconut water, corn, fruits, ice cream etc.
- Long stretch both inside and outside the park, which is really enjoyed by regular walkers
It is highly recommended to visit this place as often as you can, for a long walk or just to relax by the lake with hot corn.
